Make it stand out.
Different freelance work that I have done for various different companies over the years.
Summer 2018 Internship at Making Waves
During the summer of 2018, I served as a Graphic Design Intern at Making Waves, a swimwear and sports apparel company based in Royal Oak, MI. In this role, I contributed to a wide range of design projects for various swim teams throughout the region. My responsibilities included creating t-shirt graphics, swim cap designs, posters, sweatshirts, email advertisements, and other promotional materials.
In addition to my design work, I gained valuable hands-on experience in the retail aspect of the business. I assisted in fitting swimmers for racing suits, managing inventory, and supporting the production process by helping translate digital designs onto physical products. I also had the opportunity to attend large swim meets, where I helped sell merchandise and continued working on design tasks in a dynamic, event-based environment.
This internship provided an immersive and enriching experience, allowing me to develop both my technical design skills and my understanding of retail operations. I greatly valued the mentorship and collaborative environment of the Making Waves team.
Family Trip T-Shirt Design
During my third year of college, I was asked by my family to design custom t-shirts for our trip to Disney’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. At the time, I had recently completed my first design internship with Making Waves in Royal Oak, MI, and was eager to apply the skills I had gained.
This project presented unique creative challenges, including capturing the spirit of the event while ensuring the design appealed to a wide age range within my family. Despite the complexities, I embraced the opportunity enthusiastically. It was a valuable experience that pushed me to think critically, adapt quickly, and continue developing my personal design style.
Freelance Email Ads
During my first year of college, while I was just beginning to develop my skills in design, I was approached by my chiropractor with an opportunity to create a series of email advertisements for his practice. He was looking for fresh, engaging content to send to his patients on a weekly basis.
Eager to gain real-world experience, I took on the project and worked closely with him to develop designs that were both informative and visually appealing. This experience not only helped me strengthen my technical and creative abilities but also taught me the importance of client communication and meeting consistent deadlines.
I’m incredibly grateful for this early opportunity, which played a key role in shaping my confidence and passion for design.
Reinvented Cotton Candy Room/ Kitchen/ Nut Room
For this project, I was given the opportunity to contribute to the redesign of a section of the facility where I work. The primary objective was to reconfigure the layout to improve functionality and workflow across several key areas, including the kitchen, cotton candy room, and nut room.
My responsibilities included relocating the kitchen area and expanding the cotton candy room to accommodate six machines (an increase from the original four). I also helped optimize the layout of the nut room, which houses four nut machines. Additional space was allocated for a three-compartment sink and ample prep areas to support daily operations.
To enhance efficiency, I proposed the integration of under-counter coolers within the central prep station, providing convenient access to perishable ingredients and improving overall workflow.
This project allowed me to apply both creative problem-solving and practical planning skills in a real-world setting, contributing to a more streamlined and functional workspace.
